"Hello, my name is Lane, and I am an early-career communications professional who graduated from Pacific University with a Bachelor of Arts in Literature and Spanish. I took a nontraditional route to college, opting to work and travel for two years before applying to a local community college. Those years gave me the confidence to pursue my interest in storytelling through a degree in literature. Choosing a humanities major was no small decision, as it also meant embarking on a journey with few well-trodden paths to a financially stable career. If you are considering an undergraduate program in the humanities, I can help you interpret program offerings, give you a real-world understanding of the undergraduate experience and job market, and refine your application materials to effectively communicate the unique experiences that led you to embark on your higher-education journey.
In community college and at Pacific University, I looked to connect with a community of creatives through editorial projects. I was the editor-in-chief of a student arts and literature magazine, and went on to join the newsroom of the Pacific Index newspaper as the managing editor and copy editor. As managing editor, I edited a variety of columns and coached my writers on journalistic best practices, story development, and AP style. I also tutored in a creative nonfiction writing class that compiled students’ work into a published book. I am a good listener and a gentle, positive critic.
As an editor and tutor, my goal is to be your collaborator. I have co-edited an academic book on global learning programs at small institutions, peer-edited college theses in fiction and literary theory, and edited a successful medical school application. I find equal joy in furthering storytelling of all kinds, and I would be honored to help you achieve your storytelling goals." less...
