"I graduated from Louisiana State University in May 2023 with a degree in mathematics and a degree in psychology with College Honors. I've completed a thesis in psychology and have 3 years of research experience, participating in a few different psychology labs. I have a passion for scientific communication and enjoy tutoring- and hope that I can help make science (and especially math) more accessible and enjoyable to others.
At LSU, I was a supplemental instructor for two years for introductory psychology. During this time, I developed the necessary communication skills to help others achieve their academic goals. Utilizing a variety of review methods and activities, I integrated a variety of different learning styles so that no student would be left behind. Additionally, I would create my activities and review materials to assess various levels of knowledge so that I could see where each student was in their understanding of the course.
I was also a tutor for several classes at LSU. In my approach to tutoring, I prioritize the student and their relationship with the class. My teaching style tends to be logical, encouraging students to think deeply about to ensure long-term success not only in that class but also with learning and critical thinking in general. I try to make sure students aren't simply memorizing material, but rather understanding the topic and how it relates to other topics in the class. I try not to immediately give answers to students and instead try to guide them towards the correct answer. I also emphasize studying skills, providing students not just with knowledge, but also skills that will enable them to learn more efficiently on their own. Lastly, I try to create a casual environment. I've seen firsthand that students are sometimes intimidated by teachers and professors, and want to create a positive and welcoming environment so that students feel comfortable asking questions and don't feel guilty or embarrassed about not knowing something." less...
