"Hi, I'm Max! I'm a machine learning researcher with a proven track record as a tutor for math, physics, and computer science at the high school and undergraduate level.
I have a Master's degree in computer science with a focus on machine learning, having recently completed my graduate research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I've also conducted applied machine learning research at the JHU Applied Physics Laboratory, where I spent 4 summers as an intern.
My teaching experience includes academic settings as well as individualized tutoring. I served as a Teaching Assistant for an upper-level Machine Learning course at the University of Virginia, where I advised student projects and provided support for class topics outside of lecture hours. My TA team focused on effective instructional strategies, ethical teaching, and inclusive learning environments. Outside the university setting, I have several years of one-on-one tutoring experience in mathematics and physics, including AP Calculus and AP Physics, as well as volunteer tutoring through my high school’s Math Honor Society, where I was recognized for outstanding service.
My approach to tutoring centers around building both confidence and intuition. Many students find themselves struggling with new subjects and decide that they simply “aren’t a math person” or that the material is inherently out of reach. I pride myself on my ability to explain a concept from multiple angles and demonstrate the "why" of a topic. My goal is always to help students become independent, confident learners who can reason through new problems on their own.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss whether we’d be a good fit, I’d be happy to connect. Let's get started!" less...
