"Hello, thanks for considering me as a potential tutor. I previously taught high school for 6 years and instructed college courses on philosophy and mathematics. In my high school career, I taught courses in English, History, and Mathematics, and spent 3 years as Chair of the Mathematics Department. All of my high school teaching experience is at a unique school where all courses are taught 1-1 and in an individualized manner, ideally preparing me to serve as your tutor. I have also taught SAT preparation courses.
I am now an attorney, and use that legal background to inform my instruction in history and related courses. Lawyers are, first and foremost, writers, and so I am prepared to assist with English, writing, and related material as well. And my legal background also informs my mathematics tutoring, since lawyers are experts in logical reasoning.
In certain cases, I draw on my extensive background in community service and leadership. I have been a Paramedic since 2006, and worked in a variety of settings, including 911/emergency services, interfacility transports, and prison transports. I have also been a volunteer firefighter, off and on and in various locations, since age 18. I was a Justice of the Peace, and was elected to the Planning Commission in Westbrook, Connecticut. Before that, I was an appointed member of the Zoning Board of Appeals. In addition, I have worked in emergency planning, including serving at a high school as Chair of Health and Safety and Director of Emergency Planning. I am in a unique position, of course, to teach about local government, land use law, and New England democracy." less...
