My name is Iulia (pronounced Yulia) and I have been a tutor for close to 12 years now. As a tutor, my goal to help students build their academic knowledge and skills to gain confidence, to succeed in class and beyond.

One thing that that I love about tutoring is how you can break knowledge down into simple bite size pieces and then show students those pieces fit together into larger knowledge systems. This knowledge building, when done right, is like a self-reinforcing structure that I am happy to pass on to people to help them gain the success that I described above.

Some things I do to help new material stick for students include helping them see how new information is related to what they already know, offer analogies, and examples with visuals or manipulatives.

Another way is to help students see strings of patterns in the information they're learning because, I believe, once a pattern is seen, it's harder to unsee, or more specifically, to forget.

One thing that amazes me when I work with students is how many ways there are to break down the same pieces of information to help students understand that information. Everyone has their own perspective and seeing the material from a student's perspective allows me to personalize explanations and target the lessons to exactly what the students need. This, I find, allows me to deliver information in a way that is truly memorable for students.

After helping students understand material from class, I like to give them practice problems so that they will not only have an understanding, but practice using the problem solving methods they will need so that they see how the methods work and will be able to complete the problems on their own.

I enjoy giving students the freedom to be able to solve problems for themselves, and it's something that I would be happy to do for you or your student.
