"I am a master level 3 certified tutor, a certification in earned during my time tutoring at Umpqua Community College. This certification required classes on communication and understanding, as well as comparing stories of success so we could all learn from each other new ways in which to help our students. In my time tutoring at UCC both on the clock and volunteer, I've helped students of most age groups from 18-57 most of which grew up on a complete opposite side of the country. This was a great help in understanding and developing ways to explain things to people who grew up with completely different backgrounds than my own. And as I grew as a tutor I got a job offer to tutor HSED and GED for the Woolly Center in Roseburg, Oregon where I tutored students both high-school age and adult.

During my time tutoring I also developed a method of tutoring that helped people develop their self confidence and overcome even the most extreme test anxiety. It was a method I developed from my understanding of psychology learned in high-school and psych101. A sort of conditioning removing visual and verbal responses slowly over a period of time to where the student eventually stopped asking me started asking themselves, checking their own work to verify their correctness when unsure and then being able to move forward.

Between both my students success, and watching the "Aha!!!" Moment when the lightbulb turns on and the student gets that relief of understanding, has inspired me to pursue a career as a math professor.
