"Hello! My name is Miss Marie. I have 20+ years of experience teaching reading and language arts. I hold a Master's Degree in Reading, Language, and Literacy with a 3.93 GPA. I am certified to teach grades K-5 and Middle School Reading and Language Arts.

Throughout my career, I have taught students in elementary and middle school settings. My strength is working with struggling readers and ELL students in K-7. My goal is to establish a strong reading foundation and build confidence.

As a third-grade teacher, I partnered with a literacy coach to develop a model classroom for reading instruction. My middle school reading students consistently scored among the top performers county-wide in multiple categories.

Students love my engaging and interactive teaching style! I use games and hands-on activities to reinforce skills such as phonics, vocabulary, spelling, and comprehension.

This is how we begin our sessions:

First, I review standardized assessments to determine your child's strengths and weaknesses. If not available, I assess to determine reading levels and problem areas.

Next, I use proven, research-based reading programs such as Science of Reading, Why Johnny Can't Read, and others, all of which I have successfully implemented with my students. Based on assessment results, I devise a strategic, individualized plan to address the gaps in learning to support growth and success.

Finally, I provide regular feedback and reassess as needed to determine progress.

In addition to classroom teaching, I have experience providing private tutoring and tutoring through Sylvan Learning. Teaching reading is my passion, and I believe that with the right guidance, becoming a stronger reader can become a student's passion, too.

My rates reflect 20+ years of teaching reading, a deep knowledge of reading development skills and strategies, and production of individualized, high-quality lesson plans aligned to the student's grade-level state standards.
