"Hello! My name is Marie P., but you can call me Ms. Marie if you like. I have been teaching reading for 23 years. My Master’s Degree is in Reading, Language, and Literacy. I am certified to teach all subjects grades K-5 and Middle School Reading and Language Arts. I have taught elementary and middle school, and though I was successful at both levels, I discovered my true gift was for teaching students kindergarten through 5th grade.

You will absolutely love the way I teach reading! I use interactive games to reinforce skills such as phonics, vocabulary, and spelling. I also use the Zoom whiteboard during our lessons so that students can communicate with me through reading and writing. We will review lessons using some of the online games such as Quizziz. I use some tried-and-true proven programs to teach phonics such as Why Johnny Can’t Read and some Soar to Success Strategies, both of which I have used with my students successfully. I worked with one of my county’s Literacy Coaches to develop the model classroom for Reading when I was a third grade teacher. As a middle school reading teacher, our students have scored at the top levels in various categories county-wide.

I have also done private tutoring, and I have tutored through Sylvan Learning. Teaching Reading is my passion, and I believe either learning to read or becoming a better reader will become your passion if you give me the privilege of working with you. We will begin our journey by taking some assessments to determine your reading level and to determine any trouble areas that may interfere with your progress.
