"Hi, I'm Elise! I’ve always loved helping students unlock the power of reading and build confidence in their learning, which is why I pursued a master’s degree in Reading and Literacy and went on to become a New York State certified literacy specialist and special education teacher. Over the past ten years I’ve worked in classroom settings, small-group interventions, one-on-one tutoring, and virtual learning environments with students from kindergarten through high school. My experience includes supporting multilingual learners, students with dyslexia or reading needs, and learners with IEPs, always tailoring instruction to meet each student where they are.
My approach is grounded in the Science of Reading, and I use explicit, systematic, multisensory methods that help students understand the why behind reading and spelling rules, not just memorize them. I focus on phonological awareness, decoding, spelling patterns, fluency, vocabulary development, and comprehension through engaging activities that make learning meaningful and enjoyable. I’m trained in the Orton-Gillingham method through the Orton-Gillingham Academy and recently was accepted into the Dyslexia Training Institute’s Dyslexia Certificate Program for Winter/Spring 2026 to deepen my expertise in evidence-based literacy instruction.
In every tutoring session, my goal is to create a supportive and motivating environment where students feel successful and excited about their progress. Families often tell me that their child feels more confident and empowered after working together, which is incredibly rewarding. I believe strong communication with parents and clear lesson goals are key to success, and I strive to make each session productive, accessible, and tailored to the student's unique needs." less...
