"I began tutoring in 2011 - my junior year of college. My academic background is in math and social sciences: psychology and education. Thus, I help both on students struggling in math and students in college or graduate school who need help with research. Having studied for many different types of exams/ placement tests for college and graduate school, I am well versed with the test prep process and the admissions essays requirements. My students come from all walks of life and after studying with me have gone onto competitive state universities, obtained their GED with honors, gotten into graduate school or enrolled in a doctoral program. I draw on my life experiences and the experiences of my students to create scenarios and examples that are relevant and concise. I do not muddy waters with fancy language or complicated explanations.

Math: I am drawn to teaching math to college and adult students. I teach high school and college math - Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, and Elementary / Intermediate / College Math - as well as prepare high school students for SAT and ACT testing. I also help students returning to school prepare for the GED, GRE and college math placement tests.

Writing: I have helped dozens of students with research proposals, college papers, and thesis / capstone projects in a variety of disciplines. With my experience in two undergraduate programs and two graduate programs, I know what professors are looking for with college and graduate writing and teach that to my students so they can be successful in their courses as well. I have one student who I started working with when she was an undergraduate, and she was so encouraged by her improvement in writing that she is now in a Ph.D program.

My first session with a student is an exploration of the student's likes, dislikes, classroom environment, student's preferred method of learning, and most importantly - goals. The best progress I have seen is that in which I know the student. To teach effectively, one must first understand.
