"I received my associates degree in nursing in 2000. In 2017 I received my master's degree in nursing education and taught at the local community college for 8.5 years. My specialty was nursing skills and simulation. Nursing skills and simulation are a great place to put all of the pieces of the puzzle together while in nursing school (theory, clinical, and skills). You have to know how something works (inside the body and out), to understand how all the pieces of the puzzle work together. This helps foster critical thinking which is so important for nurses to master in this day and age.
Throughout my tenure of instructing nursing students, I had many one-on-one tutoring sessions. Sharing with a student on a one-to-one basis is one of the most rewarding experiences because the student has the instructor all to themselves. No one else has the instructor's attention, so the focus of instruction is only for that student and for their personal learning needs. I have had the privilege of instructing students as young as 15 to as old as 60.
My method of teaching is meeting the student where they are in the learning process. If a student's level of understanding is at the beginning, then that is where I meet them. If that student's level of understanding is on a higher level, then I know we can go beyond the basics and tackle the more harder to understand concepts. Understanding what a student needs requires a back and forth dialogue so that there is a mutual understanding of what is needed for greater student success." less...
