"Hi, my name is Eric! I am an passionate educator with 17 years of tutoring experience and 3 years of college teaching experience. I first started tutoring as a founding member of my middle school "study club" and I have loved helping students ever since. I followed this passion into higher education where I earned a BS in Physics summa cum laude, and Masters in Physics Education. My PhD dissertation work focused on how students learn, and I found that students learn best by doing.
I enjoy forming a relationship of trust with my students and helping them see that science and math do not have to be scary. This relationship of trust allows us to work together as a collaborative problem-solving team. My favorite part of tutoring is helping a student with a difficult concept and seeing their "Eureka!" moment when they develop their own understanding.
"Math is the language of science" according to my 8th grade science teacher. My years of experience learning and teaching science would never have been possible without a strong mathematics foundation. But it wasn't always so easy: when I first started learning math, it was a struggle. I had to overcome years of difficulty but eventually it became second nature. My early struggles mean that I understand what it's like to be "bad at math" - I know just how scary it can be - and I know how to overcome these challenges.
I have two degrees in physics, and I am PhD Candidate in Physics Education with 5 peer-reviewed publications about student learning. I have taught 8 semesters of college physics using a workshop style problem-solving format, which is scientifically proven to be more effective than lecture. Physics Education is my passion in life, and I am eager to share that passion with my students.
If math and physics seem hard or scary, please reach out to me! I promise it doesn't have to be that way. We can work together and solve the problem." less...
