"I am William Henry Akins, and I am currently a third year in ASU's Materials Science and Engineering undergraduate program, working as a Laboratory Assistant for an on campus lab specializing in thermochemistry, thermodynamics, and calorimetry. I have tutored younger students throughout my high school experience at Tempe Preparatory Academy, particularly in the subjects of Math and Science. However I did also prove to be quite helpful for students seeking advice in other various subjects like language, grammar, social studies/history, and writing. These after school sessions were one-on-one, and allowed me to really get to know the student and their material, allowing me to help them the best I possibly could. The age groups of the students I tutored varied between all of the grades present at my high school, from the 6th grade up to the 11th and 12th grades.

Although I don’t consider myself an official 'teacher', I’ve often been told by those close to me that I have a way of explaining things effectively and clearly, making even complex topics in areas such as calculus and philosophy easier to grasp. Explaining and teaching things to others has always been a method of mine not only to help others better understand the subject at hand, but also to help me get a better understanding of what I'm teaching. This allows for not only the student I'm helping to grow in their subject, but also for me to grow as a tutor and a student myself." less...
