"I have many years of experience both as a high-school and junior-high-school teacher and as a tutor in math and science. I currently work at an online school that also tutors students at the office. I especially like tutoring because there is a rewarding feeling when you see a student brighten up because they understand the material they were formerly having a hard time with at school. I've taught the following subjects as a classroom teacher: biology, chemistry, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, health, and English. I've tutored students in geometry, chemistry, algebra 2 and pre-algebra. (These are mainly students that came to me by recommendations of students I formerly tutored or by teachers/administrators that were familiar with my tutoring abilities.) Also, I tutored English as a second language at Lane Community College in Eugene, OR. Most of my tutoring students meet me either at Barnes & Nobel, Starbucks or Subway, but there are a couple that I met at their house.
In my tutoring, I will usually try to come up with helps for memorization (mnemonics) of what to do to solve certain equations, sometimes utilizing silly sayings that are easily remembered. I like illustrating ideas in different ways, looking mainly for something concrete to explain something abstract. I have tutored secondary and primary students, as well as college students.
I have a B.S. degree in biological sciences from U.C. Irvine, a TESOL Certificate from Northwest Christian University, and a California Professional Clear Teaching credential (from CSU Chico) with authorizations in biology, chemistry, foundation-level math (which goes up through algebra 2 and probability/statistics), health education, ESL and introductory English. I have also passed the National Teacher's Examination in general (integrated) science." less...
