"As an undergraduate student I attended Cal State East Bay and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a computer science minor. Following graduation I began my teaching career as a math teacher at a private school in Los Angeles. During my second year as a classroom teacher, I started my private tutoring business. Over the next three years my tutoring business grew via word of mouth and eventually became my primary source of employment. I’ve been a tutor for over 20 years and still revel in the joy that comes from witnessing students gain confidence and eventually become successful in areas that had been challenging.
As a private tutor I focus primarily on math and science, though if I have rapport with a student I can help with most subjects. For math students, I am best suited for all levels of classes for grades 5 - 12. I have worked as a classroom teacher for grades 4 - 9 and have extensive experience tutoring algebra I, geometry, algebra II, trig/pre-calc, and calculus. For science students, I have experience tutoring general science, biology, chemistry, and anatomy & physiology.
One of my strengths as a tutor is my ability to explain abstract concepts in a variety ways to help students grasp challenging topics. In addition to being a math teacher, I am also an artist, so I understand not everyone has the logical mind of a mathematician. I am able to both explain the logic of a problem and translate the math into a language creative thinkers can understand. Math is a language like any other and often my job is acting as a translator so the student can develop their understand of the subject." less...
