"My passion for helping others understand mathematics began during my sophomore year of high school and has continued to grow through my current studies in software engineering at Western Governor's University, where I maintain a 3.5 GPA. This academic journey has deepened my understanding of mathematical concepts from elementary arithmetic through calculus, providing me with both the knowledge base and real-world application experience that helps students see the relevance of what they're learning.
My teaching experience spans multiple environments, from substitute teaching in classroom settings to one-on-one tutoring sessions and small group instruction. Through this varied experience, I've learned that the biggest challenge, and reward, is mastering the learning curve of how to teach effectively. I've discovered that each student learns differently, and younger learners especially require a completely different approach than adults. My methods center around the Feynman Technique, where I help students break down complex concepts into simple, understandable parts, combined with visual aids like diagrams and charts that make abstract ideas concrete.
What sets my tutoring apart is my commitment to active listening, listening to understand rather than simply to reply. I identify where students struggle by asking open-ended questions, observing their problem-solving process in real time, and carefully analyzing their mistakes to uncover the root of confusion. I believe in learn-by-doing approaches and always have students teach concepts back to me, ensuring they truly grasp the material rather than just memorizing procedures. This patient, personalized approach has helped students at every level gain both confidence and genuine understanding in mathematics." less...
