"I hold a BA and MSc in Biology from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology and a PhD in Molecular Genetics from Utrecht University in the Netherlands. My academic background includes experimental and computational research in a systems biology lab as a postdoctoral trainee at Duke University and in the agricultural technology sector. Alongside my academic career, I have taught and mentored undergrad and high school students in genetics laboratory courses and research projects. Currently, I pursue a Master of Statistics degree at North Carolina State University.
I have provided private tutoring in math and science during my student years and also worked as a traveling guide for children of all ages, which strengthened my understanding that learning is strongly motivated and improved by hands-on experience and visualization. Since I am a native Hebrew speaker, I also help children and adults who wish to improve their spoken Hebrew, as well as their reading and writing skills.
My approach to teaching is concept-driven: I focus first on understanding the idea and logic behind a topic and then connect it to formulas, rules, and standard methods. I often use visual explanations, sketches, geometry, and simple examples to make abstract ideas easier to grasp; hands-on practice, problem solving, and making mistakes are essential to improving at math and other science disciplines (including programming, genetics, or chemistry). Since my son has studied in a Montessori system for many years, and because this approach encourages hands-on learning using shapes and tools, I sometimes adopt parts of these methods in my teaching.
Finally, I love working with children. I believe there is no profession more important than teaching, and that the early years are critical not only for acquiring knowledge, but also for shaping how a child approaches and responds to new subjects and challenges.
Feel free to reach out with any questions. I usually respond quickly." less...
