"I currently attend Scripps College in Claremont CA, and will be graduating this May with a BA in Anthropology, and a minor in Mathematics. My GPA is 3.975, and I am a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Throughout my time in college I have held various tutoring positions. I worked for all of 2023 as a math grader and teaching assistant, grading homework and holding tutoring sessions for both Linear Algebra and Number Theory courses. I currently work at a program called MathSpot run by my college, which is a weekly drop-in tutoring spot for all students currently taking math classes. I tutor multiple students each week, predominately in Calculus 1, 2, and 3. Further, during spring 2023 I worked remotely as an ACT tutor, resulting in a 4-point score increase for one of my students. I scored 35 on the ACT and 1480 on the SAT myself in high school, and thus have a well-developed test taking method that I share with tutees.
When it comes to math tutoring, I make sure to meet every student where they are at, because I know everyone has a different math background, even if they are in the same course now. For example, many students who come to MathSpot for help with Calculus 1 fully understand the calculus concepts, but struggle with algebra because of a poor math education in high school. Thus, I spend extra time working with these students through algebraic concepts, and recommend what they should review before continuing with their calculus studies. Overall, I approach tutoring with a love of learning - and a love of math - that I hope my tutees will come to share." less...
