"Math is fun! I thoroughly enjoy working with students and providing help in courses such as algebra 1, algebra 2, geometry, and precalculus. My goals are to help students understand the topics at hand and help them to apply what they have learned independently.
As far as tutoring is concerned, I have worked a total of eight years as a tutor with Sylvan Learning Centers in San Diego, CA and Alexandria, VA. At both locations I helped students at elementary, middle school, and high school levels. My main focuses are high school and college levels of mathematics in the courses of interest as noted above. I also have five years of experience working as a staff tutor in the tutoring center at the community college level in San Diego. While working as a microbiologist, I also took great interest in volunteering as a math tutor at a local high school in San Diego. I enjoyed volunteering three times a week and occasional weekends. My tutoring approach is to help my students understand, appreciate, acknowledge, and use confidently the math skills learned both in and out of the classroom. Helping students recognize the "fun" in mathematics may be a stretch, but sometimes it actually happens! When the comfortableness of learning and the confidence of executing correct mathematical answers occur, a degree of joy and fun can take hold. It is" less...
