"I am Jessica and I am looking forward to hopefully working with you!
With more than 18 years of experience in the classroom and one-on-one, I have dedicated my career to the "middle school bridge", that critical time when math transitions from simple numbers to complex logic. I have a degree in elementary education and can teach grades Kindergarten to 7th grade, which means I don’t just know the math; I know how to teach it in a way that aligns with school standards and reduces the "homework headache" for families. My experience spans everything from leading 6th grade classrooms of 30 students to helping individual students feel confident in math one on one!
My philosophy is that no one is "bad at math"; sometimes, they just haven't had it explained in their "language" yet. I specialize in working with students aged 8–13, a time when confidence is just as important as the curriculum. Whether a student is struggling to keep their head above water or looking to get ahead for high school, I create a supportive, high-energy environment where it is safe to make mistakes. After all, mistakes are just data points on the road to a "Eureka!" moment.
In our sessions, I move beyond rote memorization. We use the CRA (Concrete-Representational-Abstract) approach, which starts with visual models before moving into the "scary" symbols and variables. By breaking down multi-step problems into bite-sized, manageable goals, I help students build the stamina they need for standardized tests and beyond. I also work to clear up any deficits from previous grade levels to help with current skills. I love seeing the shift in a student’s posture when a concept finally clicks! It’s why I do what I do! I look forward to helping your student find their own "Aha!" moment and walk into their next math test feeling totally prepared." less...
