"In my past I have served as a math tutor for high school and college students in Calculus, Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry, Algebra, Geometry, and Arithmetic. I typically met with the students once per week and geared my efforts towards increasing their confidence and knowledge of the subject matter. In some situations, I simply would ask questions to get the student to realize how they should correctly approach the problem. With other students I show them step-by-step how to solve problems. Then, I walk them through having to solve it on their own and quiz them to see if they truly understand the material. I am proud to say that the majority of the students that I have worked with experienced immediate improvement in their mathematical abilities. In addition to tutoring, I also have experience with mentoring youth as a mentor through a Kappa Alpha Psi guide right program called Kappa League.

Kappa League was started in 1970 and seeks “to promote and develop the leadership potential of today’s youth and prepare them for the leadership roles of tomorrow.” As a mentor for the Charlotte, NC chapter, I helped organize a trip to Marietta, GA for a regional conference, led as a step team instructor, assisted with fundraising efforts, tutored, and helped to organize bi-weekly meetings gearing towards self-discipline, training, competition, social issues, and health education. This was a very important time in the development of these young men, and I feel blessed to be a part of shaping their lives to prepare them for college and future success.

In 2010, while attending Berklee College of Music, I was a teaching assistant for Musical Acoustics. Students responded very positively to my efforts in teaching them how to succeed in the class. In addition, the student that met with me the most earned the highest average in the class. I also tutored high school Algebra and Geometry for two students in the Boston school system and helped them to pass their online classes.
