"Hello! I have a Ph. D. in math with 10 years of experience in teaching and tutoring students at the university and high school level. I have taught courses ranging from college algebra and precalculus to upper level courses such as linear algebra, differential equations, and multivariable calculus, and have tutored courses ranging from high school algebra up to graduate level functional analysis. This experience, combined with my expertise in curriculum design, help me to equip students with knowledge about the "why" AND the "how" of math.
For my time teaching at the Mathematics and Statistics department and the University at Albany, I have won departmental awards and received nominations for college-wide teaching awards, while receiving consistently high evaluations from students. Much of my tutoring experience comes from referrals - students recommending me to their peers. I work with each student to help them understand math at their optimal pace and with their preferred learning styles, with highly individualized, high quality lessons that promote an environment of welcoming and collaboration. I am able to accommodate tutoring both in-person and virtually.
I focus on both how to do things correctly, but also how to diagnose and troubleshoot for when things go wrong - an essential skill for independent learning. Math has many quirks that makes it unique from other subjects - it is sequential, skills-based, has a very technical vocabulary, and is filled with problems that may have a single right answer but can be approached in many different ways. There are many ways for students to get lost while learning math, but this means that there are also many ways that students can attempt to improve and I am an expert in identifying where students are struggling and helping them to target those weaknesses.
Hope to work with you to help achieve your goals!
