"I have earned two B.S. degrees in Math and Physics, and am currently a PhD student in math. I have always focused my learning process on deep understanding, critical thinking, and a knowledge of the subject that is useful not just for passing tests, but for future study and technical work in industry.
In university, I would study until I could prove my way through my books and reconstruct results using my understanding and logic. Nothing gives me greater satisfaction than sharing this understanding with other people. I specialize in subjects where students are expected to prove results in math, and require a strong conceptual understanding as well as technical. Though the pool of tutors that can teach these kinds of courses is growing, I have a unique ability to reveal the simplicity and clarity that is really at the core of these concepts.
I work as a teaching assistant, and also as a primary instructor in university math classes. I earn exceptional student evaluations, and have had hundreds of hours with students to refine my teaching approach. I am very serious about the psychology of teaching, and am constantly refining the way I help to transfer difficult information to students.
Many people know how to use procedures to solve problems in math classes, but I have a deep understanding of the theory itself, its meaning and connection to other subjects, and the reasons why it is the way it is. This is a special thing when it comes to tutors, and it matters for the student: I can make math seem like more than a pointless exercise. I can expose it for what it is: the logical foundation for all future technical work, and a practical tool that is not just useful, but essential. Students learn best when they believe that what they are doing matters, and I am passionate about helping them to understand what math is for, and why it's important.
