"Hi! My name is Austin. I'm a math professor at Seattle University, having taught subjects including college algebra, pre-calculus for business, calculus-based probability and statistics, and advanced calculus (differential equations - Calc IV). I've been tutoring for longer than that though, with hundreds of hours of one-on-one instruction with students since 2008, focusing on math, science, ACT/SAT prep, and a variety of other subjects. Teaching math at the university level since the pandemic, I've realized that now more than ever, there's a need for that one-on-one focus with students to help strengthen understanding of difficult but foundational academic material.
I love helping students break through their confusion and frustration, fostering a deep understanding and ability to independently answer questions and solve problems. My approach emphasizes meeting students where they're at, and gradually helping them become comfortable and confident with the subject material.
I graduated with a master's degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Washington in 2023, with my research focused on climate science. Before that, I graduated with honors in Applied Mathematics from Brigham Young University, where my research with the biochemistry department was focused on studying the molecular processes underlying neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer's. I currently work full-time as a research data specialist at a global health institute affiliated with the School of Medicine at the University of Washington." less...
