"Summer tutoring discounted until Labor Day $55 Please note that I do not tutor online. I like helping my students truly understand their subjects. I believe their success depends on their understanding of the material; not on memorization and a calculator, or reading then reciting an answer. With their own true understanding of the concepts, quiz questions and problems become simpler; and as a bonus the knowledge can be used in other courses and later in life. When they really understand the wonderful things they can do that is when they want to know more. If you are interested in understanding your Physics, Science, and Maths as opposed to just solving problems, then I am the tutor for you. I like to show students how mathematics is both a tool and a language. Mathematics is a tool for scientist to solve problems using data from experiments, and to predict future results and events. I show them how to apply their mathematics principles including Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Statistics, and Calculus to help in solving their science problems. I teach that mathematics is also a language, the language of science; and it has a syntax and semantics just as any natural language does. Mathematics is the language scientist use to describe the universe Mathematics is the language of science because unlike natural human languages, mathematics is precise and exact. I enjoy getting to know students so that I can tailor my teaching to each of their needs and strengths. When tutoring I am able to frame each question to lead to the understanding of a concept. There is a great satisfaction when I see that 'ahha' moment and know we can move on." less...

Education and Qualifications
school: Univ. of Connecticut, Univ. of Hartford, Simmons College
certified:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Physics I am a retired teacher tutoring maths and sciences. I have a Massachusetts teaching certificate, 10 years experience teaching high school physics, astronomy, and chemistry; 22 years experience designing computer hardware and networking equipment, and 10 years experience as a construction electrician. Teaching is my 3rd career. After two other careers and 30 years prior work experience, I came to teaching as an avocation as well as a vocation. I have taught Physics, Chemistry, Physical Science, Astronomy, and IPS for high school freshmen, juniors, and seniors at the honors, college, and general levels: and I have also been Assistant Professor of Physics on the adjunct faculty of a nearby university. I have studied a wide variety of mathematics and science subjects both during my preparation for teaching, and before that in preparation for my earlier career as an electrical engineer. In addition I have completed postgraduate work in physics, science, mathematics, engineering, computers, and education; including a courses on Teaching AP Physics and in the Mathematical Modeling Method for Teaching Physics. I was an electrical engineer designing computer hardware for 20 years before becoming a teacher. Electrical Engineering is a study of physics, especially ElectroMagnetics, and the mathematics required to describe electrical systems and to solve EE problems. I have done advanced work in both physics and mathematics; and in my engineering work I applied my knowledge of mathematics and science in the solution of problems. I originally started out to be a BioMedical Engineer and began my studies in a dualdegree program at UConn for a BSEE and BA in Biology. I finished my baccalaurate at the University of Hartford in a BSEE program concentrating in computer systems and hardware design. Due to this I have studied a wide variety of subjects. In addition to my major in Electrical Engineering I have major concentrations in Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Engineering; and minors in Chemistry, and Biology. I was an electrician in construction for 10 years while attending college parttime. I then worked for 20 years at Raytheon, Prime Computer, and Digital Computer (DEC) designing computer systems, CPUs, memory, and networking hardware. I have two U.S. and related foreign patents for computer design. After my work in the computer industry is when I completed my MAT in Physics and became a teacher.
