"20 Years Making Science and Maths Understandable and Interesting!

I am a retired Massachusetts licensed teacher and former electrical engineer with over 20 years of experience tutoring and teaching maths and sciences from general to AP level.

My goal is for you to truly understand your subjects. I believe your success depends on your conceptual understanding of the material; not on memorization and a calculator, or reading then reciting an answer. With a real understanding of the concepts, quiz questions and problems become simpler; and as a bonus, your knowledge can be used in other courses and in life. Every person thinks a little differently and when tutoring I find a way to explain concepts so you will best understand them. If you are interested in understanding your Physics, Science, and Maths as opposed to just solving problems, then I am the tutor for you.

Please note that I do inperson tutoring and do not tutor online." less...

I am a retired Massachusetts licensed teacher and former electrical engineer with over 20 years of experience tutoring and teaching maths and sciences from general to AP level.

In high schools, I have taught Physics from 9thgrade Physics First through AP Physics, Chemistry, Physical Science, and Astronomy for high school freshmen to seniors at the honors, college, and general levels. I have been a mathematics instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport and an Assistant Professor of Physics on the adjunct faculty of a nearby university.

Electricity is often difficult because you cannot see it. My wife calls it magic. When you learn how it is similar to the gravity you have understood since the first time you fell while learning to walk, and are shown how once you have learned to solve gravity problems you are able to do the same with electricity, the magic will be revealed.
Are imaginary numbers imaginary? They are just as real as the numbers one and two. When you learn where the concept comes from, what it really means, and what it can be used for, you will understand them and not just have memorized that √1 = i. Logarithms? Learn what they do for us and not just how to work strange problems.
And there is much more.

I like to show how mathematics is both a tool and a language. Mathematics is a tool for the scientist to solve problems using data from experiments, and to predict future results and events. You will learn how to apply your mathematics principles to help solve your problems. I will show you that mathematics is also a language, the language of science; and it has a syntax and semantics just like English and every natural human language does. Mathematics is the language scientists use to describe the universe. Mathematics is the language of science because unlike natural languages, mathematics is precise and exact.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) and a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT). I have studied a wide variety of mathematics and science subjects both during my preparation for teaching, and before that in preparation for my earlier career as an electrical engineer. I have major concentrations in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Engineering; and minors in Chemistry, and Biology. In addition, I have completed postgraduate work in physics, science, mathematics, engineering, computers, and education; including courses on Teaching AP Physics and in the Mathematical Modeling Method for Teaching Physics.

In my 3 careers, I have been an Electrician, an Engineer, and a teacher. In addition, I have had jobs as an assistant accountant, a sheriff's deputy, a field hand on a tobacco farm, a wallpaper hanger, and worked retail.
