"I am an experienced tutor (6+ years) with proven success in math and a passion for building strong math foundations in middle and high school students. I began tutoring peers and younger students one-on-one in high school and continued throughout college, where I recently completed a degree in math and computer science.
My approach is shaped by my unique experiences as a math competition winner and my lifelong interest in how to design good math education.
If you work with me, not only will your grades improve, but you will learn fundamental problem-solving skills that last far beyond our sessions, and even glimpse why some people find math beautiful. I am confident that this is not only the most interesting way to learn math, but also to improve grades in the short term.
Success in math requires skills that, in my experience, are rarely taught in a traditional high school curriculum: problem solving, question asking, and strong study habits. These skills are essential because they enable students to learn and think on their own, no matter the subject or the quality of their teacher. Throughout my education, I watched many of my peers struggle with fundamental math concepts that came naturally to me—not because of innate ability, but because I knew how to investigate something until I deeply understood it. Beyond that, I had something that many of my peers did not: an inner experience of the beauty of math.
I believe this experience is possible for everyone, regardless of how much they enjoy math. For me, the key is learning math in such a way that, when approached from the right angle, you can discover why it works for yourself. My goal for every student is to give them at least one experience where they learn a once-confusing formula in a way that truly lights them up, as if they discovered it for themself—no memorization required. In my experience, this is the most empowering experience one can have in math, and it keeps me going no matter how hard it gets." less...
