"Hello! My name is Melvin J, and I am an educator with 18 years of experience in Secondary Education, primarily in mathematics and physical education. I obtained double bachelors degrees in Industrial & Systems Engineering and Information Systems Management from Auburn University. I received my masters degree in Public Administration from Strayer University. I'm currently working on my Education Specialist degree in Sport & Athletic Management at Northcentral University. As you can see, education is very important to me. I have been tutoring both in person and online for over 10 years, and I approach each subject to the best of my ability showing how to break things down in a very simple, but effective way. I have taught students ranging from 13-19 years of age, and tutored students from 10-20 years of age. Most of my teaching experience has been in a classroom setting, but my tutoring sessions have either been one on one or small groups, so this shows my range of instructing.

When it comes to tutoring, I like to meet each student where they are within their classroom assignments. If it's general tutoring, I look at the grade the student is in, then determine from past years what concepts would be the most important to cover. In the 10+ years I have been tutoring, the students' overall scores in their respective classes have increased. Some of these students were able to peer tutor their classmates using the methods I taught them. I've also had other students and parents to recommend me to other people looking for tutors, which speaks volumes on my abilities and how much they value me. I am fluent in all math subjects, but I really like tutoring students in middle school math, pre-algebra, and algebra 1 because they blend in with one another, and that makes the transition smooth once the students understand this.
