My primary focus is the Developmental Math levels through College Algebra, but I am still pretty good at Trigonometry, Linear Algebra, and (stubbornly, lol) Calculus. My tutoring style allows the student to have a lot of self-revelation through answering leading questions, practicing hands on when applicable, and observation of mistakes. Math should be READ first, understanding that the last part of the challenge in the equation is usually the calculations. Words used in mathematics often have the same meaning as when used outside of a mathematical situation or scenario, and it is that definition that should aid in retaining the formula. I encourage students to always at least try something, know the math rules (formulas), and try not to concern yourself with the why of the rules so much. Every rule is built off of the rule previous to it, and recognizing that pattern will lead to more successful solving and also begin to explain the why as you progress.
