"Hi, I'm Isabella! I graduated from Boston University in 2022 with a degree in Biology with a Specialization in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology and Genetics, and a minor in Medical Anthropology. Since then, I spent several years working the hospital (both in Plastic Surgery and Emergency Medicine) gaining new skills, applying my learning from school to a clinical setting, and teaching new scribes. Throughout that time, I was volunteering as an ESL tutor, teaching adult immigrants English through a local Chinatown organization. During that experience, I loved building relationships with my students (my longest standing student was with me for over 2 years!) and seeing their confidence bloom. Lastly, this summer I began my current graduate program in Medical Sciences, and will be starting medical school in the fall!
All throughout my academic career, I have been very lucky to have amazing teachers, and developed a love for teaching myself. This lead me to my previous volunteering, and to seek out teaching/mentoring opportunities in my old work!
Additionally, I have quite a bit of volunteer experience with kids! Throughout high school, I volunteered with afterschool tutoring programs for the middle school and at our city's children's hospital. Then in college, I worked with two wonderful organizations in Boston (Big Sisters of Greater Boston, and Boston Partners in Education) to help support children in their classrooms and provide help to the teaching staff.
In terms of teaching style, I believe patience and understanding are key. I love breaking down the steps to scientific processes and pathways, and the same goes for literature and writing! If some concept does not make sense to my student, I am more than happy to repeat, re-explain, and find new ways to think about a problem. Since every student's needs are different, I welcome feedback on how I can best provide support.
I look forward to working with you!" less...
