"Hi I’m Mark! I graduated from the University of Maryland College Park in 2016 with a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. After 3 gap years working at various research labs at Johns Hopkins, I began medical school at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine where I am now a 4th year student. I am currently taking an extra year of school to work as a research fellow at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. In addition to producing orthopaedic surgery research, I teach medical students and other research fellows how to conduct studies, write scientific literature, and get their work published.

I am currently ranked 4/193 in my medical school class and have scored the following on my medical licensing exams: USMLE Step 1 – 252 (83rd percentile), USMLE Step 2 – 259 (81st percentile), COMLEX Level 1 – 737 (99th percentile), COMLEX Level 2 – 784 (98th percentile). I served as a peer tutor during medical school and helped organize lesson plans to help prepare my entire medical school class for our board exams. While my specialty is anatomy and physiology, I am comfortable tutoring any medical school subject that you may need help with. Other fun roles related to teaching that I have had throughout my life include orthopedic surgery scribe instructor, academic journal peer reviewer, wrestling coach, fitness instructor, and snowboarding instructor! I pride myself on being able to explain tough subjects in creative, easy to learn ways and I think that these non-academic teaching roles have helped me refine that ability.

I feel that lesson plans best serve the student when you are able to actively participate in learning. I always give students ample opportunities to ask questions and encourage an active dialogue between us during the lesson. My goal is for you to truly understand the material, not just memorize what is in front of you, and to have fun while doing it!
