"Hi! My name is Karissa, and I am a dedicated tutor with a strong academic foundation and a passion for helping students grow. I am an undergraduate student getting her Bachelor's of Science in Biology, while also being in an accelerated BS/MD program with Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, set to graduate with my medical degree in 2030.

I have 4 years of experience working with students across a wide range of ages and levels, elementary school, middle school, high school, and college, as an independent tutor in a mostly one-on-one setting. I've helped younger students build their confidence in reading and math fundamentals, guided high schoolers through challenging coursework in science, math, and writing, and supported college students in STEM-heavy subjects like biology and chemistry. I also have experience with standardized test prep, including the SAT and SHSAT.

I often begin lessons by consulting the student on any questions or confusions that they have at the top of their mind. This helps to gear the content I teach specifically towards the student's needs, and avoid lengthy coverage of topics that they feel more confident in. I will often use question-based learning throughout a lesson to ensure that the student is absorbing the content as we work through it, and make sure to assign homework at the end of each lesson for review between lessons.
