"I'm Brandy! I'm an award-winning writer with a master’s degree from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and a certificate from CMU’s Eberly Center for Teaching Excellence. I have been teaching for over 10 years, both in and outside of the classroom. I am passionate about meeting students where they are in order to help them get where they want to go!

As a tutor, I go the extra mile to personalize lessons. I specialize in working with adult and advanced teen students on English, writing, and GRE/ACT/SAT test preparation. I always treat students as individuals, identifying challenge areas and generating personalized lesson plans to target learning goals together. I prioritize student buy-in, working hard to ensure that content is as engaging as possible. I believe in helping students find their own answers, fostering critical thinking skills through thoughtful discussion. Learning is a lifelong process and I am always learning from my students.

In addition to ongoing lessons, I offer proofreading, editing, and notes as-needed for essays, fiction, and (based on my experience as a professional script reader) screenplays and stage plays. I particularly specialize in personal statements and scripts. Proofreading and editing is available asynchronously through written notes.

A little more about my experience: At CMU I taught undergraduate playwriting; I also taught advanced screenwriting at Houston's High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. I have a BA from Loyola University Chicago. I have worked with students from middle schoolers to corporate executives, and I am proud that my students consistently report increased confidence after our time together.
