"Hello! I'm Julia (or as my 6th grade math students call me, Ms. J.)! I am currently a 6th grade math teacher and I love working with my students to make sure they can tackle topics like ratios and rates, geometry, and pre-algebra. I was inspired to become a math teacher and tutor after I had an excellent middle school math teacher who turned my hatred of math into a passion for math. I firmly believe any student is capable of whatever they set their minds to with a little support from someone like me.

Prior to becoming a math teacher, I had 4+ years of tutoring experiencing in both math and english. I was an English major in college and am still deeply passionate about the topic, which is why you can often find me deep in a book on the weekend.

My goal is to make things as accessible as possible, which is why I always have many ways to explain a concept, additional resources for students to use outside of our tutoring suggestions, and lots of words of encouragement when students have a tough time with the material.

I am currently a 6th grade math teacher, which means I am not only well-versed in the 6th grade math standards, but also the 4th and 5th grade math standards that are essential to mastering the topics taught in 6th grade. I am the person that introduces students to prealgebra and have learned different strategies and ways of making math more accessible. My work as a teacher also means I have additional access to many different resources to help student's achieve success.

I have a deep love of English, and have since a young age. This passion makes me inspired to find different ways for students to engage in the material. I have a younger brother who always described himself as a "bad writer" or someone who "hated reading," but after finding what he was passionate about, we were able to improve his reading and writing.
