"I am a graduate of MIT, and I received a B.S. for biology and chemical engineering. I will be attending the Baylor College of Medicine in the Texas Medical Center (Houston) for my M.D.. I tutored peers in high school for a variety of subjects, but in college, I started tutoring physics in a departmental position to my peers and underclassmen in my junior year (mechanics and electricity/magnetism). This is where I first discovered how much I liked tutoring students and learning how to truly teach and connect with students. I tutored other college students for 2 years, mostly one on one to encourage questions and exploration.

My general approach to tutoring is covering general concepts and then diving into practice problems. Students would usually let me know what concepts they were having trouble with or they wanted to cover before hand to allow me time to prepare. I like to give visual explanations, so I will usually use a whiteboard with drawing and equations to explain concepts and applications that might help to physically understand it. Then I either review problems they have done to walk through their thought process and if they are right or wrong, or I walk through new practice problems with them to have them think aloud how they problem solve. Usually, I will then try to create a generalized problem-solving approach for each of my students based on what might be most helpful to them." less...
