"I specialize in helping highly motivated high school students take their interests in math and physics to the next level. As a 4x USAPhO qualifier and USAMO qualifier/3x AIME qualifier, I have extensive knowledge about the unique problem-solving skills required to succeed in these contests. In my several years of studying for math and physics competitions, the one question I kept asking myself was, “How was I supposed to know to do that?” Even with the solution in front of my eyes, knowing how to come up with it from scratch was the biggest challenge that a textbook or video (or now, AI) couldn’t teach me. Developing this kind of intuition requires a lot of practice and guidance, and that’s what I hope to help my students achieve.
I primarily teach students who are self-studying for F=ma or AMC10/AMC12 and are looking to complement their studies with tutoring 1-2x per week. In my lessons, I emphasize (1) how to think about a problem in the best way, and (2) building a truly deep understanding of the underlying concepts. I often maintain strong relationships with my students and their parents over many years, and I am always happy to give advice on college admissions, private boarding school admissions, science research, summer programs, and more. I sometimes tutor students in multiple subjects; I have extensive experience teaching AP Physics, AP Calculus, Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Probability & Statistics.
I believe the greatest thing you can gain from math and physics contests isn’t the awards – it’s an appreciation for the subject that lasts a lifetime. In my academic journey, I continue to be driven by a strong interest in describing natural phenomena in the language of math and physics. I graduated from Caltech with a bachelor’s in physics in 2022, and I am currently pursuing a PhD in the biophysics of DNA organization in MIT’s Biological Engineering department.
If you think we’d be a good match, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I look forward to helping you with your studies!" less...
