"Hi, my name is Alvin. I am a junior at Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a 3.5 GPA. I have previously volunteered as a tutor for 200+ hours and earned two Presidential Volunteer Service Awards from it. I graduated as a salutatorian of my high school with a 4.0 unweighted and ~4.7 weighted GPA. I continued to tutor in a lot of high school STEM subjects but I am most comfortable with tutoring math. I usually teach high school and middle school students. I am very patient; I don't mind going over a topic multiple times before it clicks. My method to teaching is to show how I would solve a related problem and then have you try to explain it back to me (similar to the Feynman technique). I also love visualizations and will show neat tricks with Desmos to help ideas stick! I try to avoid doing a bunch of math calculations because 1) it can get tedious and 2) it's your responsibility to practice what you learn. I find it more productive for me to explain something very thoroughly and then doing one or two guided practices where you try to explain what you learn.
