"I am currently a Molecular Engineering PhD student at the University of Chicago. I graduated with high honors from San Joaquin Delta College with an AS in Math and Science and an AA in Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences and cum laude with a BS in Bioengineering (Biotechnology) from UC San Diego. I am also a Phi Beta Kappa inductee! In high school, I earned 5s on both my AP Calculus AB and BC exams. While at UC San Diego, I earned A+ in all of my math coursework, which includes Calculus III (multivariable + vector), linear algebra, and differential equations.
I have four years of tutoring experience. I worked for 1.5 years at Kumon, primarily with middle/high-school aged students on Algebra I/II content, precalculus/trigonometry, and calculus. This program expects students to self-learn concepts and for me to fill in any gaps in their knowledge. In college, I worked as a Peer Educator and gave 80 minute group (15-20 students) supplemental instruction sessions for Calculus I (1 academic year/3 quarters experience), Differential Equations (3 months/1 quarter), and Calculus III (3 months/1 quarter). These were more lecture-based interactions. As part of this role, I also did 1 to 1 academic tutoring in 1 hour office hours as needed.
My teaching philosophy is to meet you where you are at. I understand if math is not your strongest suit, or if you feel "behind" relative to your classmates. I have taught many students across several backgrounds and mathematical knowledge/abilities at the high school and college levels, and many of my students have said that I have never made them feel lesser than others if they do not know as much as their classmates. There are no stupid questions as long as you learn something. I am receptive to any feedback to better tailor your tutoring experience for YOUR needs - this is about you, not me!" less...
