"Hello!

I am currently an accounting instructor at a local college. Prior to that I worked in the accounting field for for over 10 years. One of the things I have always enjoyed and tried to do was teach even when I was working in the accounting field. I would work as either an adjunct instructor or as a tutor. I think for me the reason I still always kept some form of teaching in my life is the reward from seeing students succeed. It is their aha! moment I enjoy. And tutoring always keeps me on my toes of how to teach topics. Each student learns differently so it gets me to think creatively about how to teach topics.

When I am not teaching or tutoring I enjoy spending time with my 5 yes 5 dogs. When I get the chance I am all for going to music concerts. Music is my therapy. I try to find time to read and watch movies when I can. I am also a PhD student in Educational Studies so I too can see things from the student side.

As both an accountant and teacher attention to detail is extremely important. The other side of that is also knowing when to walk away for a minute if you can't figure out a problem. Then come back at it with fresh eyes. That is one tip I have always relied on during my school career and work life.

In the field of accounting, Excel plays I think almost 75% of what you deal with. From simple summations to complex pivot tables, Excel is a key component to being successful as an accountant. I do teach both beginning Excel and advanced Excel courses.

I use Word and Powerpoint in many of the classes I teach as well as teaching the topics myself. I think teaching them ensures I have up to date knowledge on the new tricks of the software. I am able to work in both Mac and Windows version of Excel, Word, and Powerpoint. I also know how to use Keynote

I would love to tell you more and help you answer any questions you may have so that maybe we can work together." less...
