I have taught students of varied skill level. I follow the Socrates method where the students are not passive participants but are actively engaged through discussions in their own education. When I take on a new student I start by making an assessment regarding their proficiency level and based on that I formulate a lesson plan specially while tutoring 1 on 1. This helped improve their knowledge and confidence. I feel that the key to success is to ensure that students stay motivated and engaged.

I have worked as a Teaching Assistant at a University teaching ELA. While teaching ELA occasionally I had to use the student's native language to help grasp the lesson, since some students had limited English vocabulary. Hence, it was helpful for them understand the lessons. To assess my students progress, I use to regularly conduct tests after the completion of each unit. This method of teaching really benefited my students as not only could I correctly assess my students progress but also acquaint them with the question patterns expected in their end of semester exams.

While explaining texts I usually read a section with my student and ask their impression and interpretation of the text. I usually ask them pointed questions which would help move the discussion forward and enable them to critically think about the text and the themes.
