"I am currently in my 6th year teaching science at in Maryland. During this time I have worked hard to gain experience in a myriad of areas, all to help students. Most recently, I applied to submit all four components of my National Board Certification to demonstrate my accomplished practice in one year. I achieved this certification while also finishing my Masters+30 certification, and running a credit recovery program after school to help struggling students grow through a successful life path. As you can see, I have a strong passion for helping youth, and have gotten quite talented at it.

While these are important milestones in my career, my passion and growth does not stop. Teaching and tutoring is a lifelong practice and I can continue to grow experience after experience. This year, I continued credit recovery after school, as well as running a debate club at a nearby middle school to further engage students in their development. I really enjoy this program and their mission statement to improve student life skills they do not always explicitly get in their daily curriculum.

While my teaching career has been so empowering and meaningful, some of my favorite moments have been from tutoring. I tutored casually throughout college (calculus and biology), and professionally the last 7 years. I love being able to devote all of my practice to smaller groups of students. I have found my success here to be so efficient and meaningful as well. Making meaningful connections with one or a few students is much easier than the complexities of a general education classroom of 34 students of different ages, backgrounds, and learning challenges. Overall, I find that my skills truly shine in these small settings and it is a practice I plan to continue to improve as well.
