"I use a one-of-a-kind tutoring method specifically designed for neurodivergent learners, whether they have a formal diagnosis or simply struggle with executive dysfunction. If you have ever stared at an assignment for hours, forgotten deadlines despite caring deeply, bounced between tabs without finishing anything, or felt paralyzed by the size of a project, I understand, and I can help. My approach blends creative scaffolding, brain-friendly planning systems, and personalized motivation strategies to make focus feel possible and progress feel rewarding. Where typical tutoring stops at content, I go further, teaching the tools and habits that help neurodivergent minds thrive: breaking tasks into dopamine-efficient steps, building flexible routines that work with your brain rather than against it, and turning overwhelm into momentum. With me, you do not just learn the material; you learn how to learn your way.
I am the 2021 Youth Poet Laureate of the Southern United States, a proud neurodivergent 9th-generation Tennessean, a Presidential Scholar of the Arts, a two-time TEDx Speaker, and a Scholastic Gold Medalist. I am also a United States Arts Envoy, a Davidson “Youth Genius Grant” Fellow, and the founder of AboveGround, an award-winning nonprofit that teaches creative writing and neurodivergent education. I work at the Rich Milner Research Laboratory at Vanderbilt University and hold a degree in Spoken Word Pedagogy with a minor in Religion from Swarthmore College. My work has appeared in the New York Times, Rattle, Washington Post, the Tennessean, National Geographic, and more. My bestselling book Walking Gentry Home was released by Hogarth Books in 2022, and I have performed poetry on CNN, CBS, TIME, and more. I am pursuing a PhD in neurodivergent creativity and have written 18 books and thousands of poems. I have been teaching for 10 years and work with students ages 10 and up." less...
