"Hello, I'm Bill. Prior to my first career position, I earned a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. The mechanical engineering curriculum contained significant math requirements, including 4 semesters of calculus. I also added an applied mathematics elective to my course work. I returned to school and received a Master's degree in business because that degree combination is considered very good for leadership in technical fields. Although I tried to get the most out of every class I took, looking back I realize I learned more in classes where the teacher had an obvious love for the subject and truly enjoyed engaging with students. That’s me. I know that a lot of students who seek tutoring are experiencing higher levels of frustration. My goal is always to calm those nerves, go back to basics, and build on that to reach an understanding.
From a technical standpoint, my experience is concentrated in analytics, network design, financial evaluation, and developing people. I trained and developed many team-members in various positions, and conducted workshops in areas such as financial analysis. I have tutored within my extended family in math and physics at the middle- and high-school levels. So, while I am not a math teacher I have studied in the classroom, and applied and taught in the workplace, a wide range of math concepts and math tools such as algebra, calculus, and geometry. This real-world experience is woven into all my instruction.
I have been described by those who know me as thoughtful, personable, and empathetic, with the ability to look at multiple ways of solving a problem, including how to learn a new concept. These characteristics allow me to connect with students at their unique level.
I have tried to offer enough hours to accommodate any schedule, but I am open to considering other times. I look forward to taking the frustration out of these subjects for students needing a little extra help." less...
