"Hi! I am a recent graduate of Northwestern University, with a BS in Mathematics and Computer Science. For two years, I worked as a course assistant for the Computer Science department, where most of my time was spent providing one-on-one and small group tutoring to students who needed assistance in my assigned course, which changed each quarter. I helped students in various situations, from those who were already doing great in class and just wanted to deepen their understanding, to those who were doing well but "got stuck" on a certain topic or assignment, to those who were struggling and needed additional focused help to get caught up and succeed. Even though this was focused on computer science, it helped me to become a more versatile tutor, regardless of the subject. Previously, I also tutored as a high school student: for one year, I was an assistant for AP Calculus (after I had taken it), where I worked with students during class time and in study hall. Before that I also taught material for NAQT and privately tutored a friend in AP Chemistry. These add up to ~500 hours tutoring.

My tutoring method starts with trying to figure out where exactly my student's misunderstanding or lack of knowledge lies. From there, my goal is not only to fill in those gaps, but do it in a way that gives them an intuitive understanding. What makes things click is different for everyone, so I try my best to tailor my approach to the student to make things feel intuitive to them. I believe developing understanding is the most powerful means of improving as a STEM student, although I also teach problem solving, memorization, and studying/test taking skills, depending on the circumstance.

I have a solid background in all STEM subjects, but particularly in math. I got a 5 on both AP Calculus exams, 800 on SAT Math, and 36 on ACT Math. I was in the Math and STEM honors programs at Northwestern, so the math courses I took were very advanced, but I still managed As and Bs in them. I also took graduate-level math courses." less...
