"I received my nursing degree via traditional ground classes in a four year program (two years of pre-requisites and two years nursing theory/clinicals). I have since retired from nursing to pursue teaching. If I had to pick one thing from my nursing career that stood out the most, it would be patient/family education. It was essential for patients and family members to have an understanding of the disease process, medications, nutrition etc... and majority of the time, education was started at ground zero. Being a part of the questions and concerns leading up to that glimpse of understanding in their eyes is what fueled my desire to teach. I firmly believe that once the basics (putting thought to paper effectively) are discovered, a new student is born.
My graduate level work was all online and even though my degrees took six years to complete, there was not moment where I was not learning "how to learn." I am so grateful for the online experience and the instructors who stood up and gave me the opening to a new world of freedom. For me, education is the foundation of all life and the building bricks include the intricacies of the learning process. I find there are many educational values each tutor/instructor shares with a student. My personal value is that not all learning comes from the study of course content. If you are having difficulties with a certain subject or area of study, we can slow it down a bit, back up if need be, and identify a more appropriate learning strategy so you can move forward, successfully.
My studies in nursing and my bachelor's degree in nursing began my relationship with life sciences. This provided me with a spring board into teaching nursing students in clinical settings as well as teaching an introductory dialysis course to newly hired nurses at the hospital level. My Master's Degrees in Psychology and Life Coaching were achieved via online classes.
