"I’m Jon! I received my bachelors degree in Biology from SUNY Plattsburgh and I have always had a passion and fascination for science. After my undergraduate studies, I went on to work for the Biology department at SUNY Orange. It was this opportunity working at a community college where I found my love for teaching. My first teaching experience at SUNY Orange was tutoring students for Anatomy and Physiology. This opportunity inspired me to pursue and complete my Masters in Adolescent Education and Special Education from Mount Saint Mary College.
Since finishing grad school, I have been a NYS public school teacher for ten years. During this time, I provided engaging and authentic science content to a wide array of diverse learners. I have experience teaching students from grades six to twelve. Throughout the majority of my career, I have been a Living Environment teacher in the special education setting. I have familiarity in both the co-taught/inclusive setting and self-contained classroom.
My experiences have provided me a diverse skill set of teaching tools to help students be successful in the general biology curriculum and NYS Living Environment regents. In addition, I have been involved with prepping students for the NYS regents exams along with the required labs. I also have exposure to next generation science standards. I can help with assignments anywhere from daily homework to more in depth lab reports.
Furthermore, my time as a special education teacher has allowed me to participate in resource rooms. These times have provided me opportunities to work with students in other content areas and work on strategies to help with organization and study for a variety of subjects.
I look forward to meeting new students and I hope I can help students be successful in their classes! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson." less...
