"I am a high school math teacher with experience teaching Math 1, Math 2, Math 3, Precalculus and IB Math: Approaches and Analysis (Junior IB Course). I earned my Mathematics Education degree at Appalachian State University and scored a 174 and a 191 on the respective Praxis requirements for teaching certification in math content knowledge and the principles of learning and teaching. I got a taste of tutoring while finishing my degree, working for a tutoring company supporting local high school students in Watauga County. I've had great success working one on one with former students of mine and I have been approached by students of other teachers in my department asking that I work with their students to help them with their coursework. Most of the students I've worked with tend to be sophomores and juniors in high school, but I have experience teaching all high school grade levels. Due to the nature of COVID and remote learning, I have experience teaching remotely and have gotten used to communicating mathematics via the internet.
I have always had a passion for math and for education. I attended Governor's School for Math during my junior year of high school and received the NC Teaching Fellows Scholarship based on academic performance and an extended interviewing process. My college GPA was only a 3.40, as a result of an improper withdrawal process that resulted in several skewing values, but I ended my junior and senior years with an A in every course, including Calculus III, Discrete Mathematics, Statistics and Galois Theory (a senior level math elective). Ultimately, math is one of the things I enjoy the most in life. I believe it's the most important subject in high school due to its ability to train a person's critical thinking skills. With all of that said, I'm looking forward to beginning my tutoring career and working with as many people as possible!" less...
