When I started college, I wasn't too sure about what I wanted to study. I remember sitting in an psychology lecture and seeing chemical structures listed next to the names of medications used to treat different mental health conditions. That context made it so much more exciting for me to take organic chemistry the following semester. By the time I graduated, I'd seen how the fundamentals from organic chemistry labs and lectures could be applied in real-world problems. I then began my career in biotech, where I applied my knowledge of organic chemistry to develop new therapeutics for oncology targets.
Beyond my own career and education, I've been fortunate to help others find the satisfaction of tackling some of the toughest parts of organic chemistry. I have previously worked as a Teaching Fellow for Organic Lab courses at Harvard University and as a Teaching Assistant for Organic Lab and Lecture courses at UCLA. Additionally, I've had the privilege of mentoring some amazing undergraduate interns!
Whether students are pursuing a Chemistry major, preparing for the MCAT, or trying something out of their comfort zone, my priority is to help each student develop their own understanding and appreciation for the material we cover. I like to draw on real-world examples and applications of different reactions, analytical methods, and scientific phenomena to help material stick. Everyone has their own learning style, and that's okay! For some concepts, I had to attend countless office hours and do a ton of practice problems before they started to click. I'm dedicated to identifying what's most confusing to you and finding the approach that helps it make the most sense!
