"I am a third-year graduate student in the Department of Mathematics at The Ohio State University (OSU), pursuing a PhD in Mathematics (Theoretical Track). My area of expertise is Ultrafilters and Algebra in the Stone-Cech Compactification. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Pure Mathematics from the University of Puerto Rico - Mayagüez. I have completed extensive coursework in calculus, algebra, logic, topology, and other advanced mathematics. Additionally, I have had the opportunity of participating in multiple research experiences, which have led me to develop a stronger foundation in core mathematic subjects.
I am a math instructor at OSU. I have taught multiple classrooms of approximately 35 students. My job consists of grading and teaching. For the most part, I have taught calculus. I try to demystify difficult concepts students learn in lecture and try to make these more tangible. I provide multiple examples and make sure that I explain and justify as much as possible. In the classroom setting, I try to implement a wide variety of strategies to keep students engaged. Some examples are group work, a typical lecture setting, and individualized worksheets. Additionally, I work at OSU's MSLC Tutoring Center. The tutoring center provides students (enrolled in an OSU math course) with an opportunity to further engage with the material of the course and receive one-on-one help. Previous to my experience at OSU, I used to tutor students privately (for approximately 6 years). In a tutoring setting, I prioritize the needs of the students. I address all the questions a student might have, and I provide deep insight so the student gains a fundamental understanding of the topic. I come up with a plan to make sure that we meet the student's goals (whether it is to get ahead or improve grades).
I have mostly tutored and taught college or high school students, but I'm happy to work with any age range. I have also helped students with standard test prep (SAT/ACT) and adults hoping to join the armed forces with the ASVAB." less...
