"I am a certified secondary science teacher in Michigan with a strong background in biology and neuroscience, and I genuinely love learning and sharing that excitement with my students. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Michigan State University, along with a Michigan Secondary Standard Certificate in 6–12 Integrated Science. I am currently teaching 7th and 8th grade science and have been teaching for three years, giving me a strong understanding of how science concepts build from middle school into high school and beyond.
Over the past several years, I have worked with students in grades 6–12 in a variety of settings, including full classrooms, small groups, and one-on-one support. I have taught Honors Biology and Chemistry during my internship and previously served as a long-term substitute teacher for 9th grade Biology and 11th grade Chemistry, where I was responsible for planning and teaching an entire year of curriculum. These experiences have helped me learn how to explain complex and abstract ideas in ways that feel approachable and meaningful, especially for students who may feel overwhelmed or discouraged by science.
When I tutor, my goal is to help students truly understand the “why” behind the science, not just memorize information for a test. I am passionate about helping students make sense of abstract concepts by using visuals, real-life connections, guided practice, and thoughtful questioning. I believe confidence grows when students feel safe to ask questions and make mistakes, and I strive to create a supportive environment where learning feels engaging, achievable, and even fun. Helping students build understanding and confidence in science is something I care deeply about, and I love watching those moments when things finally click for them." less...
